Now, ST may not be for you, and you can choose what every tool you like, but my point is that you’re suggesting turning a lean, fast tool for people who edit a lot of text into another IDE for your language of choice. This isn’t a mistake, or a “UX” failing, it’s a conscious design decision.

I recently ran into Codeium, which spun up my attention.But The codeium package is already available for Sublime via Package Control. The expected flow would be people just type “copilot” on Package Control (either website or plugin) and find it. As I can see the packages here ( Sublime Text packages ), almost or most of them are updated long time ago like 5 years and above or even being archived. I mean I don’t need the LSP package ( the lsp-copilot require you to install lsp package too ), not the LSP. Recently I’m in this state for like n times a day. Is the previous version open source, except for plugins
CodeWhisperer’s API is much more transparent than Copilot, it’s basically HTTP requests iirc. I rather use the openai API to create a plugin and implement it on Sublime Text myself. It’s totally a waste of time for reverse engineer for a product that is offically available and free to use on other places. There are benefits for the community to get the service ( the extesion / package ) from the official one.
So, what's stopping me from using the evaluation version and never paying for it?
(I don’t insist on having code completion and context aware chat to be served by the same plugin) I checked a few packages yesterday.The free version of tabnine is quite lame compared to Codeium. However as I have seen the codeium sublime plugin lacks the chat with context-awareness (indexing) feature. Also, most people who pirate are those who don’t have the money to spend – not saying this is a valid excuse because if you like something or are entertained by something, etc… you should pay for it… If Sublime Text was pay-only with a 30 day trial, there wouldn’t be near as many users as there are using it because of the other free options ( despite their issues ).
Most plugins are open-source though. Every version of Sublime Text is closed-source. If you find yourself with a lot of money, please to consider buying a license.
Can you get a Prime Video free trial in Ireland?
Created PackageControl plugin, then left SublimeHQ. Please correct me if I’m wrong, you worked in SublimeHQ some time ago. The combination of the solutions proposed in the first two issues posted by @deathaxe fixed the package installation for me. Unfortunatelly community can’t sign and upload a final release binary to packagecontrol.io, which would enable direct installation via Sublime Text main menu.
Obviously companies want their engineers to be as efficient as possible so an $80 license is completely worth the productivity gains. So why would companies want to buy swaths of Sublime licenses instead of telling its employees to just use Notepad++, Vim, or Emacs? The majority of license purchases Sublime gets is most likely from companies. It’s the same reason Microsoft lets you update and continue to use pirated versions of Windows. This is what I believe to be the real reason the trial period lasts forever. Now, why wouldn’t they make it free is something that I can’t speak about… but in the normal world transactions, one’s got pay for the stuff he/she buys so NOT making it free shouldn’t be such a turn off.

It does provide a Python build system OOTB which displays what appears to be a terminal, executing the code, and it doesn’t work. Terminal or REPL interfaces are not central to writing code and most people don’t use them. However if you’re using Python 3 then you need to make sure that running python runs the correct version of Python (sometimes python3 is used for this task). At least the creators of sublime are kind enough to let you try their product indefinitely till you’re really really convinced that you need that tool everyday and make a living out of it. Shelling out 80$ for me wasn’t easy too… when I was hesitating to pay webstorm’s annual license around 60$ (with a fallback license) and given the fact the Sublime is not even an IDE! But in short if you like the product and want to continue seeing it developed (because if people stop buying licenses, the product dies), then support it, but no one is making you. I know I used it as a trial for a good while before committing to a license.
I think it is cool that Sublime allows a full feature experience when giving it a trial run and that they don’t limit it. Now that may not be enough to motivate some to pay up, but that is something that is offered to license holders. Or, something like – here’s a free version, that does this, and here’s a pro version, that, on top of what the free version does, also does these other things (that we ruled, you’d need only if you’re using the program professionally, not what we thought would make you buy a license regardless)… Even otherwise, if you use continue to use Sublime, you should pay for a license (as stated on the download page).
