MLW FAQs
Answers to Common Questions
Thank you for browsing through our “FAQ” page.
We have provided answers to the most commonly asked questions about the Male Legacy Weekend starting with what it is, who can participate and a variety of other details to help you determine if we are an experiential fit for you and your family.
In short, the MLW has been coined “The Ultimate Father Son Experience“. But it’s not just about Fathers and Sons.
This is about male connection: Specifically, this event is about creating the moments where the men and boys in your family can connect on a deeper level, and we call that deeper level “Legacy”. We do this by creating moments through activity and circumstance that inspires participants to be the best version of themselves possible such as the best Father you can be, the best Son you can be, the best GrandFather you can be, the best Uncle you can be, the best Step Father you can be and even the best Brother you can be. It’s about connecting us to the right ‘container’ of excellence, and through that, amazing outcomes happen.
This is not a Religious weekend: We do, however, welcome all religious beliefs. We ask that your purpose for attending the Male Legacy Weekend is to find additional ways to deepen the connection with your male family relatives in addition to your religious beliefs. We are not here to replace any belief system, nor celebrate any one specific belief. It is, however, important to share that in past events, participants have been very moved and have shared their personal beliefs in order to celebrate their personal experiences, and not to convert or preach to others.
This is not a Camping Trip: The Male Legacy Weekend is set on the backdrop of a beautiful Cabin Camping environment that oozes camping trip, but the event itself is ‘structured’ in that each day focusses on activities that guide the participants towards concepts of Leadership, Trust, Courage and Honor. These concepts coupled with the outdoors makes for an epic event.
You will be tired (and happy): The event is intentionally packed full of fun and challenge. This allows us to create the container for amazing moments to happen.
START TIME: Saturday October 17th, 2026 at approximately 8:00AM.
END TIME: Sunday October 18th, 2026 sometime around NOON
Plan to arrive early on Saturday morning, October 17th, 2026. The onsite Check-in and Registration process will begin at 7:30AM.
The event will end no later than 1:00PM on Sunday October 18th, 2026.
IMPORTANT: you are welcome to arrive Friday evening October 16th, 2026 after 3PM but prior to 10PM at no additional cost. If you do come Friday, you will be responsible for your own meal planning as food is not included Friday evening, only sleeping accommodations.
Arriving Late: If you are unable to arrive on time for the start of the event, which typically begins on Saturday at around 8AM, then you and whomever is traveling with you will miss the “Opening Ceremonies”. In our experience, missing “Opening Ceremonies” places you and your guests in a position of missing out on the ‘glue’ that brings the participants together.
If you are concerned about arriving late, then we recommend that you arrive the Friday evening before the event so long as you can arrive before 10PM, as the host closes access to their camp by then. If you know that you may arrive late, we urge that you let our Enrollment Manager know so that we can brainstorm ways to help members of your family arrive on time, such as providing ride-share options with other guests.
Departing Early: If you know that you have a commitment on Sunday afternoon that prevents you from staying until the NOON closing ceremonies, then it may be best to consider leaving early morning right after Breakfast as the Sunday GoofBall Games will create too much excitement and energy for your Son to want to miss out on. It is by far the most energizing and memorable part of the weekend. We can always coordinate a ride-share down the mountain for your guests to help you juggle other obligations.
Cost: in either scenario, we do not offer any discounted tickets for missing portions of the event.
YES – Between 3PM and 10PM
We are able to accommodate a Friday Night stay. However, you will need to make sure you bring your own food as we will not be providing meal service on Friday Night, October 16th, 2026. We will have a BBQ / Grill available for your use, but no other kitchen appliances such as a microwave or oven will be available.
As the name implies, this event is for Male relatives (blood and otherwise) of all ages. Therefore, a Great Grandfather, Grandfather, Father, Step-Father, Son, Uncle, Nephew and anyone that you consider to be like a Son to you, or like a Father to you, or like a GrandFather to you… hopefully that clears things up.
There are no Age requirements to participate in the Male Legacy Weekend. However, if you are bringing a small child with you, please make sure you have absolutely everything you need to take care of that child as the nearest modern conveniences will be a 40 minute drive after you’ve walked approximately 10minutes to your car.

The Male Legacy Weekend is a cabin camping experience at Camp Morning Star. Your packing list should include items to help you be as comfortable as possible.
Checkout our Recommended Packing List based on what other people have typically brought with them.
A FEW CONSIDERATIONS: If you have young sons (less than 5yr old), we recommend that you bring all of the typical snack foods that you offer them during recreational days out. Also, having bug spray and sun screen handy is a good idea, and remember that we expect the littles to loose focus and even get a little tired. So just relax and have creature comforts for them handy.
PAY ONLINE: We have created this website so that you can register and pay online using a major credit card. To start the process, identify the number of tickets that you will need and click Register! We are anticipating Sunshine and a great Male Legacy Weekend.
However, please note that in the event of heavy rains, the site access is controlled by the Camp Host who may decide for safety reasons that the road to the camp must be closed. Or, if the forest service determines the main highway is unsafe they may, at their own discretion, close that road down as well. Therefore, we will communicate as we approach the date of the event what the anticipated weather conditions will be like.
