The Purpose of The Male Legacy Wweekend
To create a space where Legacy is created through common experiences using fun, ritual, food and fire so that moments are forged between male family members that will last for generations to come.
Meet Andrew H. Reich
Founder - Male Legacy Weekend
“By day, he’s a cornerstone of American finance. By heart, he’s a father on a mission to make sure no son ever wonders if he mattered to his dad.”
Male Legacy Weekend is my gift to families who are searching for a deeper, more meaningful experience to have with their relatives. I know first-hand that a father’s presence leaves a legacy no professional title or achievement can replace.
The MLW offers the framework for amazing memories to be created that sons, fathers and male family members will carry for a lifetime.
The Professional
With more than 30 years in the financial industry, Andrew H. Reich is a proven executive whose career spans some of the most respected names in brokerage and securities. He has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer among several others. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California and a B.B.A. from Bernard M. Baruch College.
The Father
But when the boardroom fades away, ‘Andy’ is most proud of his role with his family. Inspired by the memories he holds dearest — time spent alongside his own father — Andy created the Male Legacy Weekend, a Male Family Member experience built around one simple belief: that the moments we share from our heart with our fathers, our sons, our uncles and our Male Relatives are the ones that shape our character the most.
What is Legacy?
anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor
Legacy connects us to our past and gives us a sense of continuity that carries us forward with strength into our future.
A Little Context
Andy set out to create an event that would not only deliver a powerful experience for Fathers and Sons, but celebrate the fond memories he had of his own Father. By connecting to what his Father meant to him, Andy created the first MLW experience with a team of volunteers back in 1999. It’s mission was simple, to celebrate the unique relationship between all Male family members, as it is not always the case that a Son has a Father in his life. The importance was to celebrate the Father figures we all had growing up.
By creating an event that connected all participants to each others’ personal life histories (and their male family members) participants could honor where they came from and connect to the value and importance of their own continuing Legacy. More importantly, the event would create opportunities for its younger participants to build a new appreciation and respect for the sacrifices made by the male family members that came before them, thereby setting the foundation and understanding that the efforts of our ancestors matter. And, through this realization, teaching our younger male generations that upholding Legacy is the highest honor a younger generation can bestow on their male predecessors.
This is not to exclude the importance of Female influences, this event is simply constructed to celebrate the Male influences.
Andy’s vision for the MLW is in fact an important part of his personal Legacy. He is a long-standing and well-respected member of the volunteer organization known as Blood Soldiers Men’s Division whose purpose is to effect positive change in the lives of individuals and communities. If you are interested in learning more about Blood Soldiers Men’s Division, please talk to the man that invited you to the MLW this year and ask him what Team Meetings are all about.
